Life in the Universe: Its Intricacies and Subplots

http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/horrible-reactions-to-chris-brown-at-the-grammys

The above link compiles various social media reactions to Chris Brown being at the Grammy’s (3 years after he viciously and brutally beat up his then-girlfriend Rihanna).

Some gems include:

“Ok I’m not gonna lie, I’d let Chris Brown beat the eff out of me”

and

“I’d let Chris Brown beat me any day”

There are 23 others, if you can stomach it.

I’m going to try not to go on a rant here, but it really bespeaks of a sad state of affairs in this world when girls and women see this as an appropriate way to comport and represent themselves.

Listen, if you read my blog you know I’ll do just about anything for a laugh, but to make light of such a terrible act of inhumanity (while showing an egregious lack of respect for yourself and women in general), is truly too much.

This is especially an issue for me, having both been a victim of domestic violence, and having been close to others who went through it (and before you think I’m demonizing men, I know that domestic violence can be woman on man, man on man, woman on woman. It isn’t determined by gender or sexual orientation. Rather it is a result of an aberration of the human condition that allows one person to feel that they have rights over the body/mind/emotions of another. They do not).

I couldn’t care less about Chris Brown personally. In fact, I don’t even think he’s necessarily a bad person, but rather just a person like you or I who made a terrible decision (that being said, his complete lack of contrition and inability to accept responsibility speaks to other possibilities). But reading that article this morning really put a dent in my shiny.

Ladies, we can do better.
